The Lesotho Football Association, LFA, who has officially written to FIFA, challenging South Africa’s use of midfielder Teboho Mokoena in last Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier is planning to withdraw its petition.
The LFA claimed that Mokoena was ineligible to play due to accumulated yellow cards. It argued that South Africa should be stripped of the three points from their 2-0 victory last week.
Sources in the know say Lesotho is looking at the possibility of winning the group and qualifying for the World Cup against Nigeria.
If the case goes through, Nigeria will be in a better position to win the group if the Super Eagles can win convincingly the remaining qualifying games.
