Kaduna social media influencer arrested over alleged cybercrime by DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a Kaduna-based social media influencer, popularly known as Sarkin Sultan, over alleged involvement in allegations of cyberbullying, blackmail, and extortion offences.

The influencer was allegedly arrested in the early hours of Friday following a series of petitions lodged against him.

Authorities state he accessed a local businesswoman’s phone without permission, obtained intimate images, and demanded 150,000 naira to prevent their release. The 28-year-old activist, with over 100,000 X followers, confessed during interrogation, and he faces arraignment in the Federal High Court under the Cybercrimes Act.

According to a source, a complainant had alleged that the influencer threatened to expose her private images on social media, prompting security agencies to launch an investigation.

The sources further disclosed that preliminary findings uncovered several activities linked to the allegations.

They added that the suspect is expected to be charged to court on Monday after investigations are concluded.
