    CAF sanctions Senegal Morocco over AFCON 2025 final fiasco

    The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has handed down disciplinary sanctions to Senegal and Morocco following the AFCON 2025 Final fiasco.

    Below are the fines handed over to the countries and individual players:

    SENEGAL
    Pape Bouna Thiaw (Head Coach):
    CAF imposes a 5-match suspension and a $100,000 fine for unsporting conduct and actions that brought the game into disrepute.

    Iliman Ndiaye:
    Handed a 2-match suspension for unsporting behaviour towards match officials.

    Ismaïla Sarr:
    Also given a 2-match suspension for unsporting behaviour towards match officials.

    Senegal Football Federation:
    Fined a total of $615,000 for crowd trouble, team officials’ misconduct, and failure to control players and supporters.

    MOROCCO
    Achraf Hakimi:
    CAF issues a 2-match suspension, with one match suspended on probation for one year, for unsporting conduct.

    Ismaël Saibari:
    Handed a 3-match suspension and a $100,000 fine for unsporting behaviour.

    Morocco Football Federation:
    Fined approximately $315,000 for misconduct by ball boys, unauthorised access to the VAR area by team officials, and use of laser pointers by fans.

    CAF
    CAF confirms it has dismissed Morocco’s protest challenging Senegal’s AFCON 2025 title victory.

    Morocco is a potential host country for the 2031 World Cup, along with other countries.
