Users worldwide reported difficulties accessing Facebook and Instagram on Friday, June 12, according to outage tracking sites and complaints flooding rival social media platforms.
Many people in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East said they were suddenly logged out of their accounts, saw blank feeds, or encountered repeated “unexpected error” and “query error” messages.
The disruption is the latest in a string of intermittent outages affecting Meta’s apps in recent years. In a significant incident in March 2026, users in multiple countries were unable to load feeds or access their accounts for several hours.
According to outage tracking website DownDetector, more than 100,000 users reported login problems with Facebook by Friday afternoon. Instagram saw over 9,000 reports of issues, while Facebook Messenger recorded nearly 20,000 complaints.
Meta had not released an official statement on the cause of the outage as of Friday afternoon. However, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone addressed the situation on X, writing:
We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it.
