• Dapo Abiodun orders demolition of Gbenga Daniel’s properties in Sagamu

The political rivalry between Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and former Governor, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has taken a dramatic turn after government agents allegedly issued contravention, quit, and demolition notices on three properties linked to the ex-governor in Sagamu.

According to the OGD Media Office, the notices—dated August 8, 2025—were pasted late Friday afternoon on Daniel’s Asoludero Court private residence, Conference Hotel Sagamu, and its Annex. The state government, citing suspected violations of construction permit regulations, claimed the buildings contravening the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022.

The Daniel camp has dismissed the allegations as “ludicrous,” noting that the affected buildings were constructed long before the law came into effect. Asoludero Court, they said, was built in 2004, the Conference Hotel in 2013, and the Annex in 2015.

“This is nothing short of political persecution,” said Steve Oliyide, speaking for the OGD Media Office. “Governor Abiodun is abusing his office to settle political scores, hiding behind retroactive laws to target his predecessor.”

The statement accused the Abiodun administration of breaching due process by issuing contravention, quit, and demolition threats simultaneously without the legally required intervals.

This is not the first time properties linked to the Daniel family have come under attack. In September 2023, the controversial midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode—owned by Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel—sparked widespread outrage. That case remains in court, with the state losing multiple applications at both the Ogun State High Court and the Court of Appeal in Ibadan.

The former governor’s camp is calling on human rights groups, legal bodies, and the public to condemn what they describe as “a dangerous escalation of political vendetta” in Ogun State.
