In response to the traffic disruptions experienced by commuters following the closure of the Independence Bridge in Victoria Island yesterday, the Lagos State Government is actively working to ease the burden on road users.
This morning, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Giwa Shakirudeen Olushola accompanying the Governor Sanwoolu, visited the site to assess the situation firsthand, review the effectiveness of designated alternative routes, and engage directly with contractors handling the bridge works.
“We understand the significant inconvenience this closure has caused and sincerely apologise for the disruptions,” Hon. Giwa said. “Our priority is to ensure the safety of all road users while also minimizing traffic congestion during the repair period.”
Following this morning’s visit, the Government has agreed on immediate adjustments to improve traffic flow:
•Enhancement and better signage on alternative routes to guide motorists more effectively.
•Deployment of additional traffic officers to key junctions to manage bottlenecks.
•Improved communication with the public through real-time traffic updates and directional guidance via LASTMA and other official channels.
The State Government Lagos appeals for continued patience and cooperation from residents, assuring all that these temporary pains are necessary for long-term infrastructure safety and resilience.
