    I won the 1999 election against Olusegun Obasanjo says Falae

    Alliance for Democracy Presidential candidate in the 1999 Presidential election and the former Minister of Finance & Secretary to the Military Government of Ibrahim Babangida Olu Falae disclosed that he won the 1999 presidential election with a landslide, but the military establishment preferred its candidate to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

    Olu Falae now the current Ilu-Abo in Akure, disclosed this while speaking on Arise TV. He said he won the election with over 1.5 million votes.

    ”After the election, I went to court, and my lawyer, late GOK Ajayi, successfully established that if the duplicated results were discounted, I won by 1.5 million votes. Late Ambassador Dende Fernandes also informed me that he had seen the election results with the Americans, and I won by a landslide. I’m convinced that Nigerians voted for me. The military was apprehensive about a thoroughbred civilian taking over from them and instead preferred a hybrid”.

    The election that saw Nigeria return to civil rule in 199 saw the final declared winner, Olusegun Obasanjo, pulling 18,738,154 against Olu Falae’s 11,110,287.

    Chief Samuel Oluyemisi Falae CFR, is a Nigerian banker, administrator, and politician who was secretary to the military government of Ibrahim Babangida from January 1986 to December 1990, and briefly the Finance Minister in 1990. He ran for president in Nigeria’s Third and Fourth Republics but lost.
