Independence Bridge on Lagos Island will reopen to traffic by 3 p.m. tomorrow. Minister of Works Dave Umahi says work will be done overnight.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, also apologized to Lagos residents for the traffic disruption caused by the sudden closure of the Independence Bridge yesterday.

Although Senator Umahi acknowledged that the bridge urgently needed rehabilitation due to a collapsed retaining wall, he stated that the closure was carried out without his knowledge or authorisation.

Umahi warned that controllers of works and engineers would face disciplinary action if such an incident occurred again.
