The Nigerian Navy has denied reports that Warrant Officer M.O. Yusuf died after harsh punishment by a superior at the Gowon Estate Sick Bay in Ipaja, Lagos.
In a statement on Thursday, Navy spokesperson Captain Abiodun Folorunsho described the claims as “false and misleading.”
He said Yusuf died on May 20, 2026, from a medical condition, not disciplinary action, and that the true cause had been communicated to her family.The Navy expressed condolences to the family and urged the public to stop speculating.
Viral reports alleged that Yusuf, who had reported ill, was forced to perform strenuous outdoor labour under Lt.-Commander S.T. Abashim, leading to her collapse and death.
The service said it has launched an investigation and reaffirmed its commitment to personnel welfare and established protocols.
