The Commander of Ogun State Amotekun, Brig. Gen. A.I. Adedigba (rtd), has strongly refuted a Sahara Reporters story claiming the security outfit is underfunded by the Ogun State government. He described the report as misleading, malicious, and lacking in substance, affirming that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has consistently provided substantial financial and logistical support to Amotekun since its inception in 2020.

According to Adedigba, the state government allocated ₦731.8 million to Amotekun in 2024, far exceeding the ₦103 million figure reported by Sahara Reporters. He further disclosed that the budget has been increased to ₦1.5 billion for 2025, demonstrating the government’s commitment to security. He also highlighted the administration’s provision of 10 brand-new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles, additional operational vehicles, and power bikes, ensuring Amotekun is well-equipped to tackle security challenges.

He noted that the government recently recruited and trained 750 new operatives, with their salaries approved from their training days. Additionally, Governor Abiodun has approved the recruitment of 500 more personnel, each provided with full uniforms and operational kits. Amotekun has also moved into a newly constructed and fully furnished headquarters, further strengthening its operational efficiency.

The Commander stressed that Ogun Amotekun’s security strategies, intelligence-sharing frameworks, and collaboration with other security agencies are among the best in the country. He pointed out that ongoing training programs and workshops have significantly enhanced the personnel’s capacity.

Dismissing allegations of inadequate funding, Adedigba reaffirmed that the Ogun State government remains transparent and accountable in its security investments. He encouraged the public to rely on official sources rather than sensationalized reports, emphasizing that the administration is fully committed to making Ogun State a safe and secure environment for residents and businesses.
