• Tinubu secures nomination for 2027 presidential election

APC presidential primary: ‘Demonstration of internal democracy’ - Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has further strengthened his position as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 presidential election after securing a landslide victory in the party’s primary against his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo.

The President polled 10,999,162 votes to defeat Osifo, who secured 16,503 votes. Tinubu was formally declared the winner and the APC’s presidential candidate by the party’s Presidential Primary Election Committee.

Announcing the results at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, the Chairman and Returning Officer of the committee, former Senate President Pius Anyim, said the primary was successfully conducted across all 36 states, 774 local government areas, and 8,809 wards nationwide.

According to Anyim, a total of 12,643,306 APC members were registered for the exercise. Of these, 11,069,756 were accredited, while 11,015,665 eventually cast their votes.“It is therefore my duty as the Returning Officer for this primary election to declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, as the winner of the primary election and elected as the party’s presidential candidate,” he declared.

The primaries formed part of the APC’s nationwide nomination process. Tinubu had already received the party’s endorsement last year as its candidate for the 2027 election, which left little room for a serious contest.
