On Thursday, an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Wuse Zone 6 issued a bench warrant for the arrest of controversial social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM.
The arrest order was made following a criminal defamation case brought before the court by female gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
Magistrate Emmanuel Iyana ordered law enforcement agencies to arrest VDM and produce him before the court to answer to criminal allegations leveled against him by Mercy Chinwo.
The court noted that the defendant failed to honor a summons it issued on March 5, which directed him to appear. A passionate plea by counsel to the defendant, Mr. Deji Adeyanju, who was present in court to vacate the arrest order was declined.
